- I would very much appreciate if we could get our terminology right.
-
- The term BLOCK is ambiguous: some people use it to denote a text
- selection, others use it to denote the text buffer (clipboard, if u
- wish). In addition to this, the word BLOCK only applies to text
- editing software, as it suggests a continuous nature.
-
- Therefore, if we have
-
- Control A: SELECT All
-
- we should also have
-
- *whatever*: Start SELECTION
-
-
- and not 'Start Block'. The latter is very very confusing. I think a lot of
- fixing is necessary for all shortcuts concerning buffers and selections.
- They all too much suggest applicability to text-oriented applications
- only.
-
- ...which is a mistake any proposal I've seen so far makes. Let us NOT
- make the same mistake. (And, for one thing, not include anything for
- Italics, Paragraphs etc.)
-
- Some generalization of the idea of a 'cursor' would be welcome. I
- wouldn't know what that would result in. Something new and exciting,
- hopefully.
-
- I would certainly help if all of us would try and think more general
- when we read and digest the gem mail. Try and focus on something else
- than a bloody text editor!
-
- I hate text editors :-)
-
- regards,
